Spring Challenge 2022

The Big Ride Spring Challenge 2022
19 February - 27 March

As the assault on Palestinian rights and illegal evictions continue, it is ever more important that we get out and show our solidarity with Palestine. One way you can do this by joining our Spring Challenge. The sobering metrics for the challenge suggested by MECA are very relevant the situation of the children we support. They give us the tools to raise the issue of how children are affected by Israeli apartheid with our supporters and people we see on our rides.

In the Spring Challenge we will be riding for 36 days from 19 February to 27 March 2022, with a 22 mile solidarity ride on the last weekend of the challenge. If people choose, they can also set themselves the challenge of riding 331 miles or 160 miles over the 36 days.

The Spring Challenge 2022 is not a fundraising event. Our fundraiser will be in the summer when we will be organising a multi day collective ride. Of course you are welcome to fundraise during the Spring Challenge if you would like.

Why 36 days?

36 has been chosen as a reminder of the 36 miles of military perimeter between Gaza and Israel

What do the challenge distances of 331 and 160 mean?

331 is the number of schools damaged in the May 2021 attacks

160 is the number of children in Israeli Military detention

Why 22 miles?

22 miles is the extent of the road stretching the length of Gaza. Cyclists can ride for no more than this before turning round and repeating as shown in the fantastic film Cycling Under Siege in Gaza

>>>>>>>>> The Spring Challenge has ended with 125+ people taking part! <<<<<<<<<

Riders from all over the UK (Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bradford-On-Avon, London, Manchester, South Coast) Ireland, Tunisia and Palestine took part in this year's Spring Challenge. Here are a few pictures from their rides - send some of your own in to join the gallery.
